Esteemed journalist José Antonio Guardiola has been recognized with the XLI Cirilo Rodríguez Journalism Award, a distinguished accolade presented annually by the Segovia Journalists Association. This award celebrates the professional achievements of Spanish journalists, camera operators, and photojournalists working abroad.

Guardiola, currently serving as TVE's correspondent for Mexico and Central America, has built a career dedicated to international affairs and is widely regarded as a leading figure in Spanish reporting. His work has encompassed a broad spectrum of global events, including conflicts, post-war situations, political crises, natural disasters, and electoral processes across numerous countries. Throughout his decades-long career, he has consistently upheld rigorous journalistic standards and professional ethics.

Por que importa

A significant achievement in his career, this award marks a culmination of Guardiola's dedication to in-depth international reporting. The Segovia Journalists Association highlighted his ability to be a "total reporter," adept at quickly covering breaking news events as well as conducting extensive investigative journalism grounded in meticulous data verification and testimonial evidence. His reporting has consistently sought to provide context and depth to complex international issues.

The XLI Cirilo Rodríguez Journalism Award includes a monetary prize of 8,000 euros. Additionally, finalists Cristina Olea and Mikel Ayestarán each received 2,000 euros. All three recipients were also presented with "La Lente de la Tierra," a handcrafted piece from the Royal Glass Factory of La Granja.

During the award ceremony, held at the Parador de Turismo in Segovia, the Association also paid tribute to journalists Diego Carcedo and Sol Gallego Díaz, both of whom passed away recently. The Cirilo Rodríguez award is considered one of Spain's most esteemed recognitions for international journalism and serves to commemorate the legacy of the Segovian journalist Cirilo Rodríguez.
